As a Chi Omega alumni, I absolutely loved that our philanthropy was the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The feeling of helping a child achieve their wish was bliss. Being active with the organization was honestly one of the top reasons that I choose Chi Omega and couldn't be more proud to be apart of the effort to grant over 13,000 wishes to date. Now that I have graduated, participating in and spreading the word about the foundation's annual Walk for Wishes is a great way to stay connected.

Help spread the word on social media about the event and childhood cancer awareness month by using #Walk4WishesChi and #CCAM!

RunDisney's First Virtual Race Was Magical

This summer, RunDisney debuted their first ever virtual race, RunDisney's Virtual Running Shorts Series (try saying that five times in a row). Consisting of three 5k races and the choice to complete all three or a single event, RunDisney's Virtual Running Shorts Series began May 15th and ran until June 30th. Each 5k event lasted a total of 2 weeks each, giving runners plenty of time to complete at their own pace.

Virtual runs are a flexible way to choose when you run, where you run and for how long. For those who are not ready for a full RunDisney race at the parks - or who live too far to visit - the RunDisney Virtual Running Shorts Series gave beginner to advanced runners the perfect opportunity to participate in a one-of-a-kind event. I signed up for all three 5k events, receiving an extra Series Finisher medal and drink tumbler.

The RunDisney Shorts medals were huge! With each consisting of it's own unique design, the extra Series Finisher medal included features from all three 5k medals to create one magical Mickey Mouse. I especially liked how 'Summer 2016' marked the top of the Series Finisher medal, commemorating a specific time period.

My favorite part of RunDisney's Virtual Running Shorts Series was having flexibility. My first RunDisney race, the 2016 Princess Half Marathon Weekend's Enchanted 10k, was back in February. Since then, I have been dying to participate in another RunDisney race before the 2017 Princess Half Marathon Weekend - read all about my collaboration with Autism Speaks for the 2017 race here. This virtual race gave me the chance to indulge in RunDisney excitement without breaking the bank to fly to a Walt Disney park.

The 2016 RunDisney Virtual Running Shorts Series may be over, however there are many RunDisney races coming up at Walt Disney World and Walt Disney Land. View all of the fun events here!

Fashion Meets Fitness at Nike+ Chicago's NikeWomen BraHaus Event

Who doesn't love fashionable athletic wear?

The Nike Training Club on Michigan Avenue held a week-long NikeWomen BraHaus event, featuring the new and improved Nike Pro Bra Collection. Attendees enjoyed personalized bra fittings, a 30-minute NTC workout, refreshments and more.

I attended the event's last day, Thursday the 11th, during a 5:30-6:30pm time slot. After checking in with the new Nike+ app and walking through a "Take Care of Your Girls" hallway, I made my way up to the bra-fitting party.

The Nike Pro Bra Collection recently added new sports bras, ranging from low to high support. Using a special Nike fitting app, NTC employees performed personalized bra fittings to find the best fit and support customized for you. I was measured at 31 inches around and 8 inches from breast to side, resulting in an estimated 34B or size Small.

I tried on the Nike Pro Indy Cool for low support (pictured above in white) and the Nike Pro Hyper Classic for medium support (pictured above in Black/Hyper Pink). While both were temptingly comfortable, I decided to go with the Nike Pro Indy Cool due to it being a new style that I do not yet have in my closet.

Free customizations were offered for those that purchased from the Nike Pro Bra Collection, as was a special goodie bag including a $20 Nike gift card and bra case. Out of 5 motivational sayings, I choose "I Run My World" to be applied to my new Nike Pro Indy Cool. Perfect inspiration!

Aside from personalized bra fittings and swag, Nike+ Chicago featured a special photo booth from Sharingbox brought in just for NikeWomen BraHaus. As someone who's always eager for a photo op, I thought this was a great touch to make the event stand out as one of a kind.

I'm not going to lie, I was a little worried about what the NTC workout was going to entail after hearing it was Simone Biles inspired. While I have done some intense training in my past, I was a bit rusty. Luckily, the two Nike Trainers who taught the 5:30pm class - Gina Caifano and Betina Gozo - spent the 30 minutes motivating everyone to do their best and encouraging teamwork.

Attendees ranged in form of athletic background, making it even more crucial to stress the importance of motivating each other and giving it your all. This was by far the best part of the night that I took away with me.

After sweating up a storm and enjoying complimentary refreshments, I happily took my Nike swag and already-sore body home. The length of the workout was perfect, elements of the event were unique and I found a new level of comfort in the Nike Pro Bra Collection. Great event, Nike+ Chicago!

The Color Run Chicago: 2016 Tropicolor Tour

Summer 16' has been crazy busy, full of adventure and COLORFUL. One highlight was participating in my very first color run with one of my best friends.

The Color Run's 2016 Tropicolor Tour stopped at Grant Park this past June. The event was full of fun photo ops, an even better goodie bag - I especially like the sparkly HAPPY temporary tattoo that came in it - and a colorful course. Did I mention that a person dressed up in a unicorn costume - Runi the Runicorn - greeted each corral at the Start line?

This year's Tropicolor Tour gave runners a 5k vacation in their city. New features included tropical scented powders, inflatable palm trees and lots of bright color.

The 5k course wrapped around Grant Park, creating an easy, yet fun experience. Volunteers threw powder in the air at different color stations leaving a rainbow on each runner by the time they reached the Finish line.

The best part about The Color Run 5k was that it was a fun run. Bibs were not chipped and time was not taken into account on the course. The experience was all about enjoying the #Happiest5k on Earth with friends, family and Runi and Runicorn.

Post-race festivities included live music, more powder throwing, refreshments and prop photo opportunities with Alcatel. This event was a great way to celebrate summer with a friend and enjoy the beautiful city. The company was very well organized and everyone - including the volunteers - seemed to be having the time of their life!

Humana's Rock 'n' Roll Chicago 10k Race Recap

Humana's Rock 'n' Roll Chicago Half Marathon Weekend brought the heat!

I participated in this year's 10k event that occurred in Grant Park. Since my last race in April - read all about my running-on-black-ice experience HERE - the sun was shining and the hear index had sky rocketed.

The Expo featured boards of all Rock 'n' Roll race cities!

The weekend started off with picking up my race bib and bag at the Rock 'n' Roll Expo. Without an option to ship your items to your house, I trekked over to McCormick Place two days before the 10k. The Expo did a great job of not only offering a variety of event merchandise and apparel - I, of course, couldn't resist the event tank top - but also clearly displayed signs on how to 'Beat the Heat'.

The event's performance t-shirt + my tank top indulgence

I found the weather advisory to be extremely helpful since I had never done a run in 80+ degrees before. The banners gave useful tips on how to prepare for a hot race day as well as recovery. They also sent a weather advisory email before the event - A+ Rock 'n' Roll, A+. One tip that I applied the morning of race day was having a cup of water with salt before sweating up a storm outside.

Race day began in the high 70s and over my hour of run increased to the mid 80s. I thoroughly enjoyed the course, running from Grant Park to Solider Field and back. The 6.2 miles featured water stops, great city views and along musical performances from local Chicago bands. Due to the heat, I found myself switching off between running and jogging. Around the last mile, I noticed that my foot had begun to stiffen up and swell. A finish line had never looked so good!

Fun fact: MarathonFoto also does RunDisney races

Humana's Rock 'n' Roll Chicago 10k was one of my favorite races I've done thus far. The theme and course were a lot of fun and brought a unique aspect to why this race was worth registering for. Aside from my lack of stretching - don't forget to fully stretch before running! - I had a great time, loved the design of the finisher medal and would recommend this race weekend to all runners.

With my next race not until February - I'm running RunDisney's 2017 Princess Half Marathon Weekend with Team Autism Speaks! - I have a great window of time to train, prepare and get excited for my next challenge.

Happy Running.

Ready for RunDisney's Enchanted 10k With Autism Speaks

Registration for RunDisney's 2017 Princess Half Marathon Weekend went live yesterday morning and let's just say spots were flying like Lollapalooza tickets.

Photo: RunDisney on Twitter

For those of you unfamiliar with RunDisney events, make sure to check out my recap post on this past year's 2016 Princess Half Marathon Weekend. To put simply, participating in a RunDisney race is the most magical running event you will ever experience. I had the best time checking off my first race with the #Enchanted10k and can't wait to be going back in 2017.

I was nervous the morning of registration due to the exceeding fast sell out time for RunDisney races. Even after signing in right at open time, I was unable to complete my process before the system overloaded and shut me out. The 10k event then went "On Hold". Unfortunately, individual registration spots did not open up after that. Fortunately, RunDisney partners with many well-known charities for limited group registration spots. This is what my sister and I ended up doing and secured our race entries with Autism Speaks, a favorite charity of mine that is dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, preventions, treatments and a possible cure for autism.

Now until January 2017, we will be raising money towards our Autism Speaks Princess Half Marathon Weekend Team, McHughGirls. Last year's race was great, but I'm really excited to be running for a cause this year and support an organization that I admire so much. The best part? Any donation really helps make a difference, no matter the amount.

Contributions are appreciated more than you may know, so please donate today!
