Spring is in the air, and it's time for some cleaning.
Usually when people think of "Spring Cleaning" they picture going through their closets for unused items and decluttering their living area. While this is, in a sense, true the good feels don't stop there. There are many ways to refresh your home, soul, mind, and body! Here are my top tips.
Stuck in a fitness rut? Try something new!
There are hundreds of fitness studios and gyms in the city all containing unique and exciting classes. My new discovery? Sproing Sport off the Sedgwick Brown Line. You might be asking yourself, What the heck is Sproing? Sproing is running-based high intensity interval training (HIIT) in a group class setting. Using a redefined treadmill, this class features 20 second intervals followed by 10 seconds of rest on a soft surface to reduce the impact on your joints. A runner's true dream!
Sproing Sport is just one of many unique fitness adventures waiting to be discovered. Grab a bestie and put yourself out there. You'll never know what you can accomplish until you try!
Your brain might be saying that it's had enough with reading and studying for finals, but reading for fun, especially self-reflection and self-help books, is the perfect way to center yourself and get a new perspective. Sounds silly? To each their own, however this is a healthy way to stimulate the mind and gain some insight.
My recent book of choice is Pretty Happy by Kate Hudson. If I didn't already love this fitness maven, I am now her #1 fan. I strongly recommend this read if you are looking to learn how to become body smart and practice so within your daily routine.
It's out with the old and in with the new. We all have that one outfit (or five) that we always say we're going to wear, but never do. Let's be honest, about half of our clothes go unworn or have surpassed their life expectancy.
After taking out all of my clothes - and yes, I mean ALL - I realized that this was the case for my wardrobe. I started by sorting everything into 3 piles: keep, sell, and donate. After 3 long days, I had successfully minimized my wardrobe and bagged up the rest to either sell at Plato's Closet or donate to Goodwill. This clean start allowed me to really see what I had and get rid of all the clutter. Talk about refreshing!
I used to get very discouraged when it came to making healthy meals and, well, cooking in general. However there are many easy-to-make recipes that are healthy for you and include more than just leafy greens (like my buffalo chicken bowl recipe - YUM). Pinterest is a great resource for finding tasty, nutritious recipes and is my first go-to before any cooking site. If you're feeling extra motivated, creating a DIY recipe book is a great way to keep all your favorites in one place!
Taking control of the kitchen means taking control of how you prepare your food. Two words: meal prep. Over rated? Never. Put aside a day during the weekend to grocery shop and prepare your meals for the week. I promise you this will make a world of a difference in regards to connivence later on and will help keep you on track without any unplanned binging. It's all about mind over matter and, if you believe in the process, you will become a cooking maven in no time.
Because what's life without a little incentive? All that cooking, working out, and revamping calls for a golden star or, in other words, a life reward. Yes, that's a real thing. Life is hard, and sometimes picking yourself up off the ground to be better is even harder. Whether you are in a good, bad, or confusing place, showing yourself some love is always a must. After all, it's never too late to reinvent yourself.
Treating yourself comes in all shapes and sizes and can only be decided by you. This spring I wanted to spend some love on beauty. My spree included eyelash tinting at The Waxing Room, a hair cut and color from Vainte, and teeth whitening sessions from Smiling Bright. Topped off with a new bikini set from Victoria's Secret, I was all set to take on spring with style.
[Fit Tip: Hang a couple hot items where you can see them to motivate yourself towards that bikini bod! Spoiler alert, I do this a lot as an incentive to keep focused with my workouts.]
